Inspired by movies – How a number of our clients have found their inspiration for a custom made bedhead

Friday, February 4th, 2011

You just never know where inspiration for your perfect bedroom make over may come from.  For some of our clients, it’s  whilst enjoying a movie where gorgeous interiors are featured that the seed is planted.

Rebecca fell in love with the bedhead in the movie “Somethings Gotta Give” and so did we. So much so it inspired our Fulham design.  We love the understated clean lines of this design and teamed with a textured linen, the finished result is always elegant and refined.

The stunning wingbacked bed from “The Proposal” movie inspired Julie for her daughter’s bedroom.  Finished in Dolce velvet, her daughter is one special little girl to have her very own custom made bedhead to rest up against each night whilst reading.

Of course, the bedhead that is currently the talk of the town is Carrie’s gorgeous wingbacked design from Sex and the City 2.  Following countless enquiries for wingbacked designs, what better way to launch this design than with Carrie’s  rendition.  The piping and studs on the profile define the clean lines and complement the stunning black and white fabric featured.

So next time you find yourself at the movies admiring the interior features of a room and not following the story line, you can rest assured you are not the only one who focuses on the finishing touches that make a house a  home.

Profiling a client’s request for a custom made bedhead for a bedroom in a loft of an old church

Friday, December 17th, 2010

When gorgeous Narelle contacted us from Adelaide,  “The City of Churches” asking us to help her design a slat base upholstered bed for her new home in a converted church, we were quick to jump at the challenge.  The curved walls of the Church’s mezzanine caused all sorts of design issues.  Not being able to place the bedhead flush against the wall, we worked with Narelle in designing a custom made bed that was aesthetically pleasing whilst at the same time working with the limitations in decorating on a mezzanine level.    We reduced the finished height of the bedhead to just one metre.  To ensure the Sackville panelling was in proportion with this lower bedhead, we scaled down the panelling and added a button to each corner as a finishing touch.   We also opted to lift the upholstered sides off the floor to create a sense of space under the bed by adding a timber foot at the base of the bed.

The result, a “heavenly” night time retreat – wouldn’t you agree?   Narelle has kindly provided photos of her new home.  She has a great eye for detail.  Personally, I don’t think I will ever look at the bones of a church again in the same light without thinking – “where would I put the kitchen?”

Thank you Narelle for helping us all to think outside the square when it comes to the possibilities of where one’s next home may be……..

Dear Georgie,

Our mezzanine renovation has caused all sorts of design issues and your bed has not only been custom made around two single mattresses but the proportions look fabulous and the colour is a great neutral (despite being a shade of purple!). Frank keeps telling me how much he loves the bed…….. He hasn’t said that for any other purchase – from desk, sideboard, lounge, tv unit etc etc.   The functionality of it, made to size, doesn’t rock/move, slats are firm etc etc wins him over every night!

Thanks so much.

Merry Christmas

The Design Files features Heatherly Design…..

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Lucy Feagins from The Design Files showcases every day something new in design.  Whether it be interiors, fashion or an interview with a leading designer, her take on what’s in is always fascinating and insightful to read.

Here at Heatherly Design, we were most humbled when our designs were featured in April.  Below is her feature……

I discovered Heatherly Design recently at Magnolia Square Fair – prompting another ‘why didn’t I know about this already!?’ moment!  Wow, what a brilliant little local design company!  Based in rural Victoria, Heatherly started out in 2000 with an initial focus on interior design and colour consultation. Heatherly’s owner/director Georgie Leckey soon recognised a gap in the market for stylish custom upholstered bedheads, and seized the opportunity to adapt and fill this niche.

The Heatherly Design website allows customers to design a custom bedhead according to Heatherly’s range of designs, sizes and fabrics – or you can source and supply your own fabric if you prefer. The prices are extremely reasonable, particularly for a customised locally-made product!

My fave has got to be the raw Belgian linen with cross-stitch detail (below)… beautiful! (There is a stunning shot of it, styled by Glen Proebstel, which featured in Country Style magazine – check it out on the Heatherly Press Page).

Do yourself a favour in keeping up with the latest in design and subscribe to her blog each day.  It will be one email in your inbox you will look forward to each morning…..

Profiling a client’s request for her son’s bedroom

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

We were delighted we could supply a bedhead for a young boy with haemophilia, a rare bleeding disorder.   A soft bedhead was critical at night to prevent injury during sleep.
It is emails like this that bring us so much joy and satisfaction.

Squared Childrens bedhead in Richmond navyDear Georgie,

I wanted to write and thank you for our bedhead. It has been the perfect addition to our son’s new bedroom in more ways than you can imagine.
Tom is three years old and is a severe hemophiliac- his blood contains no clotting factor. This makes life with a very active boy complicated! We were very concerned when purchasing a bed for him as we feared bleeds to his head with a wooden bedhead and also the risk of falling out of bed and hitting the side sections of a traditional bed. Therefore we opted for a bed and base as the safest option. The only drawback was often in a restless sleep Tom would bang is head on the wall (very loudly!) and although this rarely resulted in a bleed it was awful to hear and very worrying. The other issue was his bedroom never looked ‘finished’ with the bed and base up against the wall.
When I saw your article in an issue of ‘House and Garden’ magazine I was very excited. The bedheads featured were exactly what I had in mind, yet had never managed to find in a shop. Your website was very user friendly and the service you provided – outstanding. I appreciated your offer of a discounted bedhead used in a photo shoot and luckily it matched in perfectly with everything else!
Whilst it looks sensational it has answered my prayers in more ways than being visually pleasing. When I tuck Tom into bed at night he is snuggled up with his head on the pillow right next to his lovely padded bedhead. It is so much safer for him and we have not heard a sickening bump in the night since.
Whilst the intention of this email was to thank you for the excellent product and service, I also wanted to request your permission. We are members of the Victorian  Haemophilia Foundation (HFV) which supports individuals and families with bleeding disorders such as haemophilia. They produce a regular newsletter and it is very useful to read of other families experiences and things that make life easier. I was wondering if you would mind me passing on your business postcard and a short letter explaining our experiences with Tom’s bed and what a fantastic solution your bedhead has been. There may be other families who are having the same problems we experienced and would be interested in your product.
Thanks again for everything,

Profiling a client’s request for a hospital bed….

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Bed heads 16.11.09 003We enjoy a challenge and when a request came through to disguise a hospital bed for a lady living with MS, we set out to create a bedroom makeover she could be proud of.

We too were thrilled with the end result

Here is Jane’s story…..

Dear Georgie,

I would once again like to say “I love you” and a big thank you for my absolutely amazing bedroom transformation. It is even better then we imagined.

I have lived with MS for the past 18 years but 2005 began my journey being confined to wheelchair and having to adjust to changes in our home.  It was difficult having to give up our much loved queen size bed for 2 single
“hospital” beds, which are not very stylish, to say the least!

So began my search for a bedroom makeover! Surfing the net I came across Heatherly Design Bedheads.  I knew a bedhead would help but given the design of a hospital bed with wheels and adjustable heights, it would be complicated to transform our hospital bed to a normal bed setting.

Georgie assisted me with forwarding fabric samples and advising me on what  style would best suit my existing furniture in the room.   We considered several different options with how to disguise the base of the bed and eventually settled on a velcroed valance option.  I was a little hesitant yet confident in Georgie’s professional manner and expertise.

David from Heatherly Design delivered and installed and the end result was amazing!  There is absolutely no way anyone would know we are sleeping in hospital beds.   My bedroom is stylish and my friends cannot believe my glamourous new bedroom.

Thank you for everything – my bedroom now is a place I am proud of.
We highly recommend Heatherly Design for any bedroom needs.

Profiling a client’s request for an original cowhide bedhead

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Here at Heatherly Design, we pride ourselves on creating unique bedheads.  When gorgeous Sada from Adelaide emailed asking if we made cowhide bedheads we “jumped to” and quickly sourced a range of cow hides for her to select from on line.   You can see from the attached photo, Sada’s distinct decorating style has come together with the cowhide bedhead as her centrepiece.

You can feel Sada’s excitement when receiving her bedhead late one Friday afternoon.  I am sure there are so many girls who can relate to ”remerchandising” late at night.

Dear Georgie,

WHAT HAVE WE DONE???

Circumstances led to me not being able to unwrap my bedhead until about 10.30pm last night…..Well…..what do you think happened between 10.30pm and 1am? Every piece of furniture, bedding, artwork and accessory has been up ended and shifted turning the house completely upside down!
My husband really doesn’t like either one of us right now!!
Because you are right….I am unwilling to put my new purchase in the guest bedroom as initially planned.
I have an amazing hand-forged iron bed from France in the master bedroom that I swore I’d be buried in…. it will soon find itself shifted to the guest room so I can enjoy my new bedhead.

Photos will be forthcoming but since now it looks like a total overhaul of TWO bedrooms, I’m not so sure when.
A most sincere THANK YOU for a job exceptionally well done,
Sada

Portobello in original cowhide

Sada’s Testimonial

I thought it would be difficult if not impossible to locate a bedhead made from genuine cowhide. However, finding Heatherly Design on the internet made it easier than I dreamed possible!  I sent an email explaining my request and quickly received an encouraging reply from proprietor Georgie Leckey. She endeavored to locate a cowhide supplier, sent photo selections, and then closely worked with me to create a georgeous custom-made end product which was then safely shipped interstate. Georgie and her team were professional, helpful, creative and understanding of my needs throughout the entire process. I highly recommend Heatherly Design to make your wildest bedhead dreams a reality.”

Heatherly Design can help you too find the perfect cowhide

Cowhides make a fabulous statement in an upholstered bedhead – they are not just suited to the floor!
Let us help you choose a cowhide for your own bedhead.  For all those girls who would rather a cowhide on the floor and a textured linen on the bedhead, we can still assist you with sourcing a cowhide at a most competitive price and freighted direct to your door.  It is just a case of specifying size and design and we then can email images for you to choose from.  It really is that simple!!
