What is a free standing bedhead?
A freestanding bedhead is one that stands alone and does not need to be mounted to the wall or mattress. The L shaped designed legs which sit in behind the mattress hold the weight of the bedhead and rest it securely against the wall.
There is an option to attach wall mounting brackets to the back of a bedhead but from our experience, the legs are by far the simplest option for installation.
What sort of bed is it suitable for?
Freestanding bedheads are designed for use with all ensemble and slat beds.
Ensemble beds comprise a mattress placed on top of a matching bed base.
A slat bed is one where a mattress rests on slats.
What is a fully upholstered bedhead?
A fully upholstered bedhead is one which is completely covered by upholstery fabric and several layers of padding.
Will the bedhead fall over?
When placed between the bed and wall, the bedhead rests securely on the L shaped designed leg. At the base of the leg are rubber stops which secure the stand to the floor and ensure it doesn’t slip on floorboards.
What sizes do the bedheads come in?
Our standard width for all bedheads is as below. However we are only too happy to design a bedhead to your exact specification. If you would rather a wider bedhead than below, simply email us your measurements for a personalised quotation.
The additional finished height we recommend for each bedhead is achieved in the freestanding legs which sit in behind the bed –
| Single | 100cm wide x 118cm high |
| King single | 110cm wide x 118cm high |
| Double | 140cm wide x 118cm high |
| Queen | 160cm wide x 118cm high |
| King | 190cm wide x 118cm high |
The bedheads are made “oversized” to accommodate additional width of thick bedding and bedspreads.
What heights do the bedheads come in?
Because of the adjustable nature of the L-Shaped leg, bedheads can be presented at a range of heights. Heights are measured from ground level to the top of the bedhead. Other heights are available upon request.
| Low | 125cm |
| Medium | 135cm |
| High | 145cm |
What materials are used for the bedheads?
All Heatherly Design bedheads are made from top quality materials. We use heavy duty upholstery fabrics and high quality seating grade foams and wadding. These are attached to a solid timber MDF for single, king single and double sized bedheads. Queen and King size bedheads are made from a solid timber plywood frame.
Where can I view your range of fabrics?
The majority of our fabrics come from Warwick fabric house. You are welcome to visit their showrooms directly to see the full range of fabrics they offer. You are not obligated with using just the fabrics shown on our site. Pending the fabric is suitable for upholstery, we are happy to make your bedhead design in your chosen fabric. The Warwick showroom will be happy to assist you with your selection and can provide you with cuttings to take home. Visit the Warwick website to find the showroom nearest you!
Do you have a showroom where we can view your designs?
The short answer is not yet!! We regularly exhibit through Magnolia Square Fairs in both Sydney and Melbourne.
If you are based in Melbourne, Temperature Design in Collingwood have four samples on their floor. You are welcome to visit directly but as they are a wholesale showroom, the girls would appreciate a phone call. They are located 2/9 Byron St and can be contacted on 94191147. Whilst there, inspect their gorgeous range of bedside tables and occasional furniture. We are presently negotiating a site in Sydney to showcase our designs….watch this space…..
What if I have a bedhead design in mind that is not shown on your site?

How do I maintain the fabric on the bedhead?
Because the bedheads are fully upholstered with commercial quality upholstery fabrics, all Heatherly Design bedheads will stand up to reasonable wear. You may clean on a low suction setting of a vacuum cleaner with the appropriate attachment. If you require professional cleaning, you should use only cleaners that specialise in upholstered lounge suites. Heatherly Design does not recommend using spot cleaners. All bedheads come with fabric cleaning guidelines.
What other accessories or products can I have made to match with the bedhead?
Coordinating valances, cushions and blanket boxes are available upon request.
Can the bedhead fabric be updated in the future?
Heatherly Design understands that their client’s tastes change, children grow up and people move houses. We are happy to reupholster your bedhead to suit your changing needs. Alternatively if you are based interstate can recommend a qualified upholsterer to assist.
How long will it take once I place an order?
Once Heatherly Design is in receipt of your chosen fabric, delivery is generally 6 weeks.
How do I set the bedhead up?
All Heatherly Design bedheads come with an easy to read instruction guide. The L-shaped legs and screws are packaged separately to the bedhead. Heatherly Design ensures drill holes are at the height requested by the client. It is just a case of screwing the legs on with a Phillips head screw driver.
Are bedheads covered by a warranty?
Yes, all bedheads are covered by a 12 month structural warranty. If you discover a structural imperfection with your bedhead please contact Heatherly Design. Please note that many fabrics have natural imperfections as part of their overall appearance and do not constitute a fault. All fabrics will fade if directly exposed to sunlight, so avoid direct sunlight as this is not covered under warranty.
