In the garden at Heatherly
Monday, October 12th, 2015
My passion for design has naturally progressed to our garden at Heatherly. Having inherited a large country garden over 17 years ago, I had no choice but to jump right in when it came to keeping order. It was either that or let the sheep in!! However I soon found out from experimenting with different plantings that layering, scale, texture and form – all the words we use in the decorating world transpired in the garden as well. As I look out our design office window to our formal herb parterre, the bronze fennell is stricking alongside our rainbow silverbeet and golden margoram.
We are now in the prime of Spring and everyday something new and exciting is flowering before our very eyes.
Every year local gardens in our area are opened to the public and this year Heatherly are throwing open our gates on Saturday the 24th and Sunday the 25th October to share the glory of Spring in our beautiful Acheron Valley. So grab your picnic baskets and and take a leisurely drive through the Yarra Valley, pop into Yarra Valley Harvest for a quick coffee and visit my favourite shop in Healesville next door – Morris Brown, then put the top down and admire the trees through the renowned Black Spur.
Come join us with your picnic in tow (and maybe a tipple of champagne) and see where Heatherly bedheads humble beginnings started in our woolshed over eight years ago.
We have been humbled to work closely with Ben Scott a fabulous landscape designer from Melbourne who has designed our forecourt and parterre and the result is very special indeed!
On top of all that excitement, meet both Fi and I in the design office whilst enjoying spring at its BEST in our valley.
The very talented sculptor and good friend Darren Gilbert will be featuring his designs in our garden which are available to purchase! Sound good?
