Styling tips for the Bedroom

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014

The slightly cooler weather we are experiencing this week has turned our thoughts to changes in our decor.  How can we make our homes and indeed our bedrooms feel more cozy for the cooler months ahead?

Adding a colorful accessory to your bedside tables will give the bedroom a bit of zing. We are always on the look out for lacquered boxes in different colours to change the mood on our bedside tables. They come in handy if you want to store small items such as odd buttons that need to be sewn, or that extra pair of reading glasses.

Never underestimate the power of flowers and plant life to give your room a much-needed lift. They don’t need to be flowers from the florist, we quite often pick a succulent branch from the garden and pop it in a small vase of water. They have the advantage of lasting for ages before they get leggy and if they start sending out roots you can plant them back in the garden. The ultimate recycle.

Simple touches like propping a small piece of art on the wall will give your bedside table height and make it much more interesting. You don’t need to put a nail in the wall, just prop. The advantage to this is you can change your artwork as often as you like. If you have any budding artists in the family their work can be displayed in inexpensive frames from Ikea etc. Rotate as needed.

You don’t need oodles of money to create a sumptuous bedroom. Try to make it feel relaxed and welcoming- not uptight. Lamps don’t need to match, in fact if you flick through some magazines now you will find many stylists are using mismatched lamps and tables.   Add a reflective surface, nothing makes a bedroom feel more glamorous than something a little bit shiny. It could be a vase, mirror, or even a mirrored bedside table.

Texture can make a bedroom instantly luxurious, the colder nights are a great excuse to add a knitted throw in a soft wool. The more crafty of you could use a crocheted throw, or maybe a patchwork quilt to add texture and colour.  Look to companies like Aura Home who have just released some beautiful new throws in great on trend colours and designs.

Don’t forget bedroom chairs, footstools, and shoeboxes. Those of us lucky enough to have the space can use these “extra” pieces of furniture to bring a layer of comfort to their bedroom. We are launching a new bedroom chair this week to meet the demand of our clients who are looking for a stylish bedroom chair. The Crosby chair looks stunning in our Shimmer fabric and would certainly give your bedroom an instant hint of luxury and style.

We have styled two bedside tables to give you an idea of how simple it is to create different looks for your bedroom. Don’t forget to check in on our Pinterest page. We have devoted boards to bedside styling and decor that inspires us.  Hope we have inspired you!
